Contemporary yet traditional garden

This is one of many central London formal gardens in South Kensington which is contemporary in its choice of materials. It is also a traditional garden, formal in its symmetry and balance. So palest porcelain stone carefully matches the stucco fronted home.  Additionally a perfectly maintained formal lawn creates deep and densely planted borders. The iroko timber repeats itself in the screening above the Victorian brick walls and in the bespoke and discreet storage too.

It is designed with two distinct levels. We adjusted the proportions of each level so that the lower terrace is a generous dining area and the upper lawn provides for large parties, easy seating and planting. Generous and wide steps flank two tiers of planting in this elegant town garden.

Classical and Mediterranean garden

The Italian owners of this formal elegant Victorian villa in Little Venice wanted a classical garden.  This space reflected the proportions of their home.  So pleached hornbeam, a classical summerhouse, lawns and terraces all work to proportions based on the Renaissance Golden Section.  Also two arches frame period sculptures and fountains and lavender, roses, fig trees and clipped box complete the Mediterranean image.
